If you’ve walked through the doors of the Fleurieu Study Hub, chances are you’ve been welcomed by Cathy – our Site Coordinator and all-round champion of students.
Cathy’s role is all about creating a safe, supportive space where students can thrive. She loves the genuine connections built over casual check-ins, where students share both their wins and their challenges.
“We realise that sometimes we might be the only people in a student’s life who ‘get it’,” Cathy says. “We understand the pressure, the deadlines, the sense of overwhelm – but we also celebrate the ‘I finally got there!’ moments!”
For students thinking about visiting the Hub, Cathy’s advice is simple: “Be open to saying hello. You might find someone studying the same subject or course as you. Having a study buddy can make a huge difference – online study doesn’t have to be a lonely road.”
When it comes to study tips, Cathy swears by the power of starting small: “Take that first step. Once you do, the momentum will follow. I love a good ‘mud map’ too – throw all your tasks out on paper and build a plan from there.”
And if you haven’t heard yet – students who are registered with the Hub can apply for 24/7 access to the space. While it’s not automatic, access is available to those who need it – especially if you’re juggling study with work, parenting or other responsibilities.
“One student used to hide in their car just to get some peace and quiet. Now they have a welcoming space where they don’t have to hide – and can really focus.”
Outside of the Hub, Cathy’s happiest moments are spent with her grandchildren. “They keep me on my toes and constantly open my eyes to new ideas and ways of seeing the world.”
